I’ve been working on creature and character designs for a little project I thought up. I had this idea about some kind of swamp monster and decided to work it out in Photoshop. I started with a few basic ideas. I wanted it to have skin flaps on its head and a beer belly, so in two different windows, I made the head and body. First step, I made the general shapes I wanted for both and then 3-D rendered them, giving both bumps and texture. This took a few hours as my computer is terribly slow. Then I set out coloring them. Then I put the pieces together and noticed I had made a rather phallic monster. So I slapped a birthday party hat on it and called it a day. That’s why you sketch first. Always sketch first.
